Is this a midlife crisis?

Is this a midlife crisis?

May 30, 2026•2 min read

If you are anywhere on the internet right now, you have seen the meme. Choose your millennial midlife crisis. Quit drinking, panic baby, ice baths at 5am, a sports car, collagen in your coffee, peptides you can’t pronounce, a podcast nobody asked for, dressing like your teenager.

I get it. I really do. My youngest already gives me a look when I call her my little one, so I understand the panic baby draw. But no. We went a different direction.

My husband retired. And then we bought a business.

Landwork Enterprises is a landscape construction company with almost 40 years of history in western Washington. Crew, fleet of equipment and the kind of operation that gets built one project at a time over decades. Excavation, grading, drainage, retaining walls, hardscape, pavers, irrigation, lighting, softscape. The whole project, start to finish.

We have known about Landwork for years. We were actually approached about buying it back in 2017 and said no. The timing wasn’t right. The numbers didn’t make sense. We watched it from a distance, hired them for our own property, and kept going with our own lives.

Then August 2025 happened and we said yes.

My husband is the owner and operator . He came from corporate finance, holds his CPA, and is genuinely one of the hardest workers I know. He is built for this in a way that is hard to explain until you watch him on a job site at 7am texting me photos of tractors like a kid on Christmas morning.

I am behind the scenes. Taking everything I have learned building a referral-based mortgage business and applying it here. Better systems, an online presence, a network built on trust. I am the beginner again and it is uncomfortable.

We are excited for this next chapter. Terrified, if we are being honest. But mostly excited.

If you are in Eastside - King County and your backyard has been on the Pinterest board for  years, reach out. And follow along at @landworknw while we figure this out in real time.
